My brother fished Union Beach yesterday and had a nice time but no fish. He said the guys around him didn't catch either but he heard of fish being caught earlier. One guy off shore in a kayak but my brother couldn't see if he was catching.

It was me! (I was a bit west of there; may have been someone closer to UB.)
After enormous frustration became unbearable, I was finally able to get out last evening. Scooted down to RB, launched the yak at around 6:30 and fished till 9.
It was beautiful: the sunset was a big red ball, the water was glassy and gray and fused with the sky, and the bluefish were numerous, hungry, and fierce. I was trolling a fly and a plug, and couldn't go more than 30 sec without a hookup. Finally I stopped, switched to a Bob's Banger on the fly rod, and caught blues topwater by casting and retrieving.
Used the Bob's Banger I tied with the holographic Chuck E. Cheese sticker on the back. I was right: the image of a giant smiling rodent drove the blues to new heights of frenzy. Chuck finally got bitten off in a ferocious sideways lunge.
Almost no boats or fishermen out there, probably scared off by the forecast of thunderstorms that never came (as I should have been). Had bluefish baked on potatoes and apples with mustard and white wine sauce for dinner. Yum.
As I hosed off the yak this morning, I had to clean the blood from the starboard side where I stabbed the two I took home. First blood on the yak, a curiously rewarding feeling.

Great story....love to see the rat eaten by a blue! Sounded like a great dinner to boot!
