For years I've wanted to check out this river. Its the one that flows in that remote valley under Rt. 287 just north or Rt. 23. I worked my way from Pompton Lakes Shopping Ctr. all the way to the RT. 287 bridge. I got lots of exercise and it was beautiful but nada. I saw 1 brook trout, lots of carp and suckers and that's it. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif There was tons of good looking water and if this had been the Rockaway River it would have had tons of smallies, panfish, etc. At least I get to stop wondering about it.

Might have just been the time, day.Acidity level might be the problem in that stretch. Some fine "looking" water on the Moose just a few miles from me but the acid level pretty much killed the fishing there years ago.Farther upstream though, its still real good.

It wasn't a time of day thing. This is remote water and much of it shaded. I would have spooked anything that was there. I saw lots of suckers and carp, but that was it.
