Rich G and I hooked up and hit the upper Rockaway River. Rich had just gotten a 120 and this was its maiden trip. Its a hike in spot where one needs to cart the yak in a trail app. 100 yards or so. The last section is steep and a tree had come down dragging lots of brush down. We used our Shimano Pliers to cut a trail so we could get the yaks under the tree. We were ready for a swim.
First cast Rich christened his yak with a feisty smallie. I suggested that instead of his weenie worm that he use a micro jig. Rich stayed with the worm. When we connected later he had 2 fish and I was over 30. Rich then used a small craw crank and got fish but the trebles caught too many weeds. He got fish on it though. Eventually he switched to a micro jig and got lots more fish. I ended up with app. 60 fish. A couple dozen each of smallies and sunfishes, double figure yellow perch and a handfull of chubs. It was a nice time on the water.
