So how many of you bring a side arm or some sort of defense when you go yaking out in the marsh? If not to protect you from rabid wildlife, but from strange personel roaming about (*hears a banjo*).

I'm not so worried about it when I have other paddlers with me, but I always get nervous about the thought of going out alone or with just one other person. In today's day and age, it's plain scary just reading the news paper.

Anyone?

Depends...

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Just a cheap knock-off on the Ruger Single Six in .22 cal or .22 mag.

Nutria are on my "shoot-on-sight" list IF I'm in an appropriate place to bust one's lil head. They don't belong here. Let the coyotes eat their rotting carcasses.

I don't think I'll be bringing one to fish the surf or the barges and I've been leaving it in the truck while fishing the federal refuge lately.

I have a little 22 semi auto Ruger Pistol that I frequently take along.

I usually bring a .22 pistol,a .38 pistol(for backup),.12 gauge auto w/buckshot for close range and a.308 scoped in case I miss up close and they run. When I have room I also bring my jambalaya pot to throw at the threat if all else fails.

UNC:

I think your 38 is a little overkill.

Are you a die hard Tar Heel basketball fan? If so, you are aware of a reserve senior named CJ Hooker. When he was playing junior varsity ball in Kodiak AK he used to come the the Coast Guard gym for pick-up games. Between him and his father Connie they could handily whup all takers. They are both exceptionally gifted athletes and great people to boot.
