Well today I just got my prowler 15 and I launched at cane bayou around 4:00pm. Handled really well, saw a few gators..a couple of times it seemed I ran over a big gar which scared the crap out of me because it splashed and hit the front bottom of the boat..(I hope it was a gar). I hung a right into the marsh area and got deep in there...almost got lost, even with my gps because there were so many little shallow cuts and dead ends...it took me an hour to get out of there and back into the bayou. For a moment I thought I was going to have to call someone to get me out. At least I got alot of practice maneuvering in tight shallow places in the marsh which was very challanging. Before I went into the marsh, I went out into the lake and notices the grassy beds along the shore. The water was really clean and calm. Have anyone of you fished this area of the lake? It seemed like a good place to fish. I really wasnt planning on fishing, just exploring and getting comfortable with the yak. Oh, I also noticed about a 4 foot sand shark cruising around the grass beds about 15 feet from me...pretty cool.

Yahoo! Another sucker gets addicted!

Welcome to the loony bin!

We're planning to head over to Cane Bayou or Bayou Lacombe @ Ponchartrain Sunday morning. There'll be four of us... Kingfish, Mrs. Whack-a-Lou, Lil-Whacker and lil ole me.

I haven't fished it before but several folks who hang out here are experts at not catching fish in the area. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm getting good reports on bream in Cane Bayou and mixed reports on trout at Lacombe. I don't care what we catch as long as the wife and kiddo get to catch enough to excite themselves.

Good to hear that the water is still clean. Tides will be moving. It's all in the hands of the wind and rain god's now.

The weather man will make our decision. One of us is in a SIK so we're allergic to waves and wakes. We thought about hitting the trestles and the South Shore but I think it's gonna be a full blown circus over there. I trust me. I don't trust 200 motorheads high on trout juice.

Those gar are placed there to ensure that you stay awake and are aware of your surroundings. Works pretty good doesn't it? They still give me a startle response when I'm slippin along in stealth mode and they explode beneath my paddle.

Tight Lines!!!

I just read a post from a local fishing forum regarding SHARK SIGHTINGS on the North Shore around the Goose Point area

- Here is the post :

Sharks in Lake Pontchartrain! Fished the last two afternoons and saw many sharks near the northshore. Wednesday with my neighbor Joel on his first trip to the lake and looking for trout and reds in shallow water on the west side of Goose Point, one hit our cut mullet and Joel had a great fight on an Ambassadeur 5500C3 for 27 minutes before the release in the water at the boat. Fish was at least 4'. Joel said he saw black tips on the fins. Yesterday alone and just off Green Point, one rapidly unloaded a Mitchell 300X spool of Powerpro, again baited with a piece of cut mullet. I got a good look at another in very clear water, and the very top of the tail fin was black. Can't tell from my ID book what type it was.
On returning to the launch and south of Green Point, I found a nice adult vest style life jacket floating in the water. If it is yours, email me for its return.
