I hate wearing sunglasses, but maybe I'm going to need a pair. What kind do ya'll here like, in the inexpensive Polarized catagory? Or should I just pick up a $10 polarized pair and call it a day?

Makes a good pair of polarized shades that are semi-wrap and vented to prevent fogging. The lenses are removable for easy cleaning. They are sold under the FLW brand name and cost about $15, I think. I have since switched to a prescription pair, but until then, these were the best cheapo pair I had found.

As my grandfather taught me, the best time to fish is when you can.

I'm happy with keeping a few pair from Wally World around. The Panama Jack's are decent and run $20 or below.

I consider these to be expendable items and I'm lucky if they last a year before I break or lose them.

Eye doctors do highly recommend the wrap around style for fisherpersons.

SIERRA has some nice glasses for a cheap price. Get either the Copper or Brown lenses so you will be able to see the stripers on the flats.

The brown or copper lenses are great except on cloudy days when the yellow lens work a little better. If you ever go away on a flats trip to a far off destination you'll need different lens colors for different light situations. If you wear glasses you can get by with the slip on kind or slip over type. Off shore fishermen use bluewater lenses to help them see. Here in NJ I like the mud or toxic color shades to help cut the the funky colored water. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Sit back and enjoy the ride!

I bought a cheap-o pair of Strike King polaroids last year while traveling for business in FL. They've been pretty good to me, comfortable, fairly scratch proof, and cheap. I only break out the expensive Orvis shades for big trips now.

The brown or copper lense color will let you see the fish more clearly than any other color lense on sunny days. But as salty said on cloudy days yellow is the right color.

i like the renegade from walmart myself
under $15, polarized, and cool looking... pickup an eyeglass cord for less than $2 at walgreens and you're set.

Wal-Mart used to sell a great pair of wrap around, amber lens, polarized sunglasses for about 15 dollars. Now I can't find anything like that other than grey lenses in any Wal-Mart around. Any other suggestions?

Someday God will explain the universe to me ... while I'm waiting I'll go fishing

For $20 you can get these with smoke and tan interchangeable lenses:

What if the choices are amber or gray -- what then? Amber, I suppose?

Go to Campmor's web site (Google it). They have a selection of brand name polarized sunglasses for under $25. I have a pair of Bolle wrap-around that I've been using for a while but the surf has taken its toll, and replaced them with another pair of Bolle's of another style. I've got some cheap ones but they distort things, don't cut the glare as well, and cause me headaches.

They're your eyes, get the good stuff - but don't pay retail.

Ahhh, so this is where you guys have been hiding http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Great site!

Cheap or expensive, get glass lens! They clean up much better especially with your shirt which is always alot handier than a cleaning cloth and solution. The first or second time you do that with polycarbonate glasses they seem to scratch or develope a haze.

I've been through some glasses, from Maui Jim (best I've had) to Fisherman's Friend ($15). Currently I'm sporting some Hobie's I scored on ebay )

The cheapest ones worked great(why, yes. I am the cheapest man alive!) They are really ugly but who's looking at us fishing? I'd get (got) three pairs of cheap glass polarized lens (one in each color for varying light conditions).

The other really important piece is a chum strap to hold them on. They hang around your neck getting less dirty or smashed and you can tighten the bead on the strap to keep them leaving.
Still the loneliest yak fisher in the great pacific northwest.

No, that's not a channel marker! It's my boat!

Guess I would put in my two cents about going cheap on glasses. I'm not an eye Dr. nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I've seem to have lost part vision out of an eye due to a retina tear last year. One doesn't realize have good you have it until you loose it so to speak.. So, when it comes to eyes and skin protection I guess I will vote for going for the best I can afford. If you don't have your health and esp. your eye sight it ain't near as much fun! Bottom Line: Protect them the best you can!!! If one wears regular glasses to begin with you might try some "fitovers". They have been a good option for me. They are large enough that they fit over your regular glasses. For me they beat the heck out of dropping clip ons or those flip up ones in the water or trying to keep up with them. Fitovers are not the cheapest option, I think mine were about $30 bucks. Came with croakie, clip on carrying case and cleaning rag. Are polarized and protect from side sun glare. I got mind from the local "Styleyes" location at my Optometrist. They were cheaper there than on line(think they have a website) or at the local sports store.

All the best
