Took the kayak out after it warmed up. Wore the wet suit anyway to stay warm. Put in at Matlacha park and paddled to McCardle island and back. Very few snook in the mangroves and they had lockjaw. The snook I did see were out on the dark spots trying to get warm. Caught some nice reds on yozuri lures. Very productive for a 4 hr paddle.

TAC'1-ONE:
My wife and I are planning a trip to Florida in late April or early May. Deciding between Key Largo or SW Florida. Can you suggest a nice spot in your area to spend 3-4 days relaxing and doing some kayak fishing? The Gulf coast looks like a great place to relax and enjoy the beach. I found a place online called Tween-Waters on Captiva Island that looked pretty nice. Can you suggest any other hotels?
Also, I have heard about the red tide that you get on the Gulf. We have a similar occurence here in Peconic Bay (Brown tide). Is there any seasonal pattern to the red tide or can it happen at any time?
Your feedback would be appreciated.
Tight Lines.

Tween Waters would give you the best of both worlds(beach & backbay). Not sure what other hotels have for rental equipt. The red tide can show up anytime.
