Anyone here fished Hobe Sound? There seems to be a small put-in about a mile north, but the ol' Top Spot says it's good for ladyfish, snook, tarpon, and trout. Any advice, opinions, directions, etc.?
I'll post a report in return. I'm going tomorrow, so if anyone else wishes to go or meet up there, IM me (iacas) on AIM or email me.

hi iacas,
we keep running into each other on these boards. fyi, i replied to some of your posts on reel-time (user name was ozmo)
i've fished hs once from the refuge visitor's center. brought our yaks but didn't use them, we just waded from shore. lots of activity but no interest from the fish. i'm still working on some good put-ins there but haven't had a ton of success. i have had some success in finding places to hit peck's lake (just a bit north of there). lots of potential in that area. shoot me an e-mail and we can hook up if you're interested.

I tried today, wading a little bit from the same place you mentioned. I didn't feel like going down 47 steps and around a bit to put in the yak, and besides, it was windy as heck.
Caught about ten trout in an hour and called it a day (nearly lost my hat as many times).
I asked in the office, and basically, there are no put-ins in this area. The only good area to fish (according to the Top Spot anyway) is right there at the nature preserve, the big grass flat there. The rest of Hobe Sound is seemingly just a speed alley for boats.
I'm off Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I went up past Turkey Creek in Melbourne today. Caught some snook in Crane Creek before the wind became literally so hard that you could not cast into it with a jig! http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good report, glad you caught some stuff. What was the water like? When I went it was the color of coffee with cream (probably shouldn't have waded out as far as I did). I had a bright fly that I lost when it got below 6 inches down or so.
The best kayak option at the refuge would probably require a cart. If you follow the nature trail (from the parking lot) it opens to a wide fire road that goes straight down to the water. It'd be a long haul carrying the yak but a cart would work pretty well. That'd give more access to the entire shoreline. I went to the fla sportsman seminar a month or so ago and they gave a presentation on hobe sound. definitely need a boat, could hit some of the spots with a yak.
I got pretty much the same info as you; I've asked the people in the visitors center as well as people who fish it: no put-ins. But the area north of there around peck's lake and the st. lucie inlet is a different story.

The fire road was recommended to me as well, but I didn't check it out.
If 1 is crystal clear water and 10 is Coke-colored water (like I've seen in the Everglades), then the water yesterday was a 3. It was a STRONG west wind, so close to the shoreline it hadn't kicked up much mud. It's a pretty mucky, grassy bottom. I felt like a pair of snowshoes would have been effective when wading to keep my feet from sinking into the muck.

Glad to hear about the water clarity. the day I went would've been a 10 (if you mixed the coke with milk). I fished the sandar between the stairs beach and the fire road beach. Wasn't nearly as mucky. I'm out of town for a couple of weeks but when I'm back I'd be interested in heading up there again.
