The flip-side question is why is Malibu offering it ? My guess is that because it is relying primarily on mail-order sales, it has to offer people more on the warranty/support side.

I do not like the original purchaser restriction: why should that be an issue ? Fly rod manufacturers used to insist on that but have almost all relented now.

I very much like, and appreciate, the accident clause.

OT is the only other yak mfg using a simmilar method.Their's are a bit different though. They use closed cell foam sanwhiched between two layers of plastic instead of all plastic construction.

Becareful of mail order kayak becouse if you are not satisfied(not what you expected or manufacture defect]they will charge you premium shipping charge.I had to returned my Malibu Pro Explorer becouse it was taking significant amount of water.I did noticed soft spot very thin plastic with lots of mini clear bubles.I'm very happy with my t-120 very well made..

Companies offer a lifetime warranty because they need to assure the public so they'll buy. Malibu being a mail order only company is probably doing the same because they have too.

When Cobra first hit the scene they had some problems, which they fixed, but to get people to buy they offered a lifetime warranty. This actually isn't in the companies favor and that's why most established companies only offer 1 year.

Plastic boats die with UV radiation (Sun) and a company can't control how a person will use the and treat the kayak. At some point all tupperware kayaks are going to die. It should take several years but they will.

Emotion went a compromise route. 3 years which is more then enough time to determine a defect (1 is enough).

That "several" caught my attention, Jon. If I use a kayak for, say, 15 - 20 days in a year, expose it for another 3 - 4 days/yr while traveling, but store it in a dark garage the rest of the time, about how many years am I likely to get out of it ?

many, many years. I wouldn't worry about it. If you leave it laying in the sun for years its going to break down.
