I saw this fourm and after reading a bit I decided to add a blog I wrote from a year ago.To set this story up right I need to add a small bit.In sept 05 I was in a nasty motorcycle crash broke my pelvis in 3 places broke both wrists and seperated my tail bone from my pelvis...this incident happened March 13 06 not even a year after...this is deff what not to do while in rehab nursing a major injury...but being straped to a bed for 4-5 months dulls your judgment.

swam in 30 deg water.... sucked
Current mood: dirty
Category: Sports

Yup....went canoeing on sunday. It was a very nice day around 3 o'clock.About 70 deg outside.Me and my friend decieded to go although it had rained like a bitch all night. We drove to a new put-in and decided that the water was moving way to fast to try it that day.So we went to our favorite spot on the beaver river instead. It's so wide that the speed really wasnt that bad.We paddled for a good 2 hours that day.Now I took my buddy shopping for kayaks a month before and talked him into this nice perception illusion 14' sot and I had been dying to try it out.We had been out twice since he had picked it up,so I figured it was time to hit him up for a test ride.We found some docks down the river and he parked his boat against the current so it pined his boat against the dock so he didnt need to tie it down.I crawled out of the canoe sat down on the dock and slid over onto the kayak perfect. Now I am an experianced kayaker mind you but I have never tried a sot yet.I grabbed the paddle and him and our other friend turned around and started to walk back to the canoe and "KA-SPLOOSHHH!!!!'''They turned around and all they saw was an upside down kayak(They missed it they frigen missed it)They said when I surfaced the look on my face was sheer terror(read my other blogs...Broken pelvis I'm made of a quarter metal now and am still in rehab)That water was frigen cold.....
I bet it was every bit of 30 deg or less....and thats not the worst...if anyone knows the beaver river when it floods a little bit it's like swimming in the back of a garbage truck thats been full for a month and set out in the rain for a week....I wasnt so worried about the cold water as I was about catching some viral funk from the scumy water that day(there were hundereds of dead little fish in the water that day...wife says I'm a big fish)After I got over my inital shock and cold,I let go of the side of the dock(no clue how long that took,And yes my buddys were laughing there asses off once they realized I was all right)I swam to shore and pulled my self up onto the walkway of the dock like a drowned rat.Only then did I realize that I had lost a pair of sunglasses that I had mannaged to keep ahold of for over 5 years now I was pissed that only got them laughing harder. After about 5 min of mopping on the walkway not to mention my buddy taking a few pictures from a camera he rescued from his upsidedown kayak.I walked toward the dock.Well the walkway was broken the further I walked the deeper it sunk...thus bringing even more laughter as I sunk over my knees to get back to the docks and the boats.Luckly I had a dry fleace shirt in the canoe and a heavy wool blanket to put over my knees so I stripped off my wet shirt and put the dry one on and wrapped up in the blanket. All in all it was a great day but swimming in 30 deg water sucks......but being able to laugh with your buddys at your self is priceless...It's the little things like this that do make these adventures worth it at the end of the day because the 3 of us will never forget this day for as long as we live after the sheer terror of the moment was done it was just too damn funny...although my wife still has yet to see the humor in it....maybe you had to be there.
