WS sort of frowns on someone strolling around the plant w/ a camera.
Maybe I could try one of those little tiny "spy" belt buckle cams next time. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

hey ruthless,
heard there was a fellow by the name Let's Go that was looking for the first 160TW out of the mold as well. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That is true, but I am close enough, and willing to go and get it at the factory.

Wait till they've made at least 50 hulls and ironed out the wrinkles. Even though it's just the deck 1/2 of the mold that's been reworked, it's good advice. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Darn, I need a 10" hatch minimum behind the seat to get rods inside for a beach launch, so this one only has a 8"?.
Ya know, if they put the hatch at a 15 degree angle it would work. Sorry, just dreaming.
I find it OK getting to the front hatch on the 160 for rod loading.

Jon, I've always found it easier to get them in the rear hatch because my boats are tippier when I get forward in the cockpit. Never tried it in a Tarpon though.
How does the 160 do in surf landings?

Hi Guys,
I've been a bottom feeder for a while, enjoying everyone's posts. Struggled with which yak to get, and I called Jon last week and ordered the new T160 TW. But it's my Christmas present, arriving in Feb, and I'm lonely down here in South Louisiana--desperate for a pic... willing to throw Mardi Gras beads....
As it turns out, it might arrive the week of Mardi Gras, and as a good (adopted) Cajun, I won't work that week.
Beads for pics... http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also will be getting one.
Watch what any lead times anyone is giving on availability on these anytime before March. My "senses" are telling me April will be the month.
You'll know how close it is when you see me post two T120's up for sale. http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Got photo's yet???? scott
Here's what I know so far as to the layout of the Tarpon 160TW. The hull is the same as the other 160s. The top is new. It has a tankwell from the 140. An 8" hatch behind the seat. The seat from the other Tarpons. No center hatch in the cockpit. The front hatch is the same as the 120/140. I'm not sure the cockpit layout. Expected availablity is March.
I wish they'd keep the original forward hatch. It looks so much easier to use than the tupperware type. When I've tried the tupperware ones at a shop, I can't see them being easy to get on and off on the water. Any comments from T120 or T140 owners?

I wonder if that 8" hatch sits in an area that will accept a bigger hatch? Mayb we can squeesze on ein. Maybe even a rectangular hatch that is a bit wider, like 8x12 or 10x12. S

All tupperware is sticky until you rub some some armor-all or 303 on it. Once you do that it's easy.
As S2 pointed out lubing the front hatch with 303 makes it easy to put on and off. My objection to the hatch is I wish it were larger.
Scott, all the Tarpon hatches have been specially molded for that hatch and don't allow for any modifications or replacements. I don't expect this one to be any different.

I was wondering if the surface of the yak would allow a modification for a bigger yak, The swings recessed edges for their hatches were excessive enough to allow a slightly larger hatch to be installed. But I don't recall the extra amount of room around WS hatches. S

The "hatch world" is a tough one. With th t160 there were way to many complaints of leaking/weeping/ water in my yak complaints. Personally, if you have no more than a cup of water in your yak after a good day out, so what. Thats what drybags and such are for. You cannot buy a watch for what you paid for that yak the will say "water proof", it says "water resistant".
The standard to go by for the yak makers has been what has worked the best for the top of the line sea kayaks, and what those folks demanded. The "tupperware" style has been it. Those guys even secure those hatches with a bungy around the lower lip. They don,t care about accessing the hatch while out on the water, they want it water tite. That's where the demand came from.
Now the makers will need to rethink different styles of hatches, for different types of yaks. They don't like to do that because of costs, assembly times, storing, etc. If they have one hatch that fits on all their yaks, they are quite pleased. Those hatches are a b--ch to put on, but put on right, they are sound.
Here's the other wrinkle that the engineers forgot about(not just Confluence) is the shrink rates of the resin in its different colors and ambient temps. That hatch lid does not vary. Injection molded part.
The yak will have slightly different shrink rates from color to color and the rate of cooling it was exposed to. The yak I make today in a 60 degree building will not have the same exact dimensions as the one I make in August when the building temps are 95.
This is why you may find that you have 2 ...say,T120's side by side and one hatch may be "easier" or "harder" than the other to put on.

So the new T160 will have the T140 seat? That is great. My T140 seat is extremely comfortable!
