For Warm weather May to September in moderate chop of the backbay areas of western Great South Bay Long Island, NY.
Nothing over 54 lbs, which is the weight of my canoe that I use on lakes. I am 53, 5'8", 154 lbs., and need to lift it onto a station wagon. Figure I will take 3 hour trips, with mostly lures from spinning rods, as I have an 18' outboard. We eat what I catch. Which SOTs should I be considering but without breaking the piggy bank (under 6-700.)

Great South Bay! might be some of the best kayak fishing in the NY area and its amazing that more people are not in there with yaks. I know you want light but I think that you are going to want something that covers some distance and handles some chop as that bay can get a little bumpy on certain winds. The Prowler 13' fits the bill,is 54lbs and is in the price range.
