Just got back from Academy...

Castaway Baitcast rods are on sale for $38. The ones that are usually $90 (not the cheap ones that were on sale a few weeks ago). I looked at the guy behind the register and asked him if the price was right. He smiled and said yep....

If you need new rods get them now...I picked up one....or three http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I have to go out there tomorrow too. I bought a cheapie rod tonight at Wally World, and broke it before I even got it home. I was pissed, even though it only cost 12 bucks. Damn Power Windows can destroy a rod in a heartbeat!

I looked at the yaks at Academy when I was shopping for my yak. To be honest with you, I would buy one from someone who knows about them, uses them, and can answer questions you would not even think about answering.

Example, what paddle to get. I did not know that your height, wing-span could determine which length paddle to use. Big difference in a 230 cm and a 240 cm in how you can control your yak and ease of paddling.

Personally, I know a lot of people purchase off the internet, and I almost did. I opted to purchase at a local paddle shop because if I had any problems or questions, it was easy to get help and info. To me, it was worth paying the sales tax (prices were the same) to get some assurance and make a couple of new friends at the shop where I purchased mine.

Little things like the type of seat, rigging, etc. Just my two cents worth on that.

Can't help it...I'm going back today to see if they have any left. They'll make awesome gifts and I might just pocket one...for one of next years Paddlepalooza '06 prizes. http://kfs.infopop.cc/eve/forums?s=418607442&a=ga&ul=811107247
