i'm about to install my new fishfinder, and i wanted to get a feel for what you guys think is the best adhesive for attaching the transducer to the hull.

i've seen silicone mentioned, marine goop, and lexel. are they basically all the same, or should i favor one over the others?

Marine goop worked for me in the past and after much deliberation, it'll be what I use this next time too. An archive search will probably have more detail. Good luck!

I installed mine using 100% clear silicone almost 4 years ago. Never had any problems never changed it and I still get a very clear signal. Just make sure you sand down the area where the transducer will go using 80-100grit sandpaper. Also after sanding clean the area of all small particles. And let the silicone dry 3-5 days before using.

What Stan said. Too, the alternatives to silicone work too well IMO. With a little effort you can break the silicone away from the hull in case you decide to change either the yak or the FF. Try doing that with Lex.

Does anyone know if Marine Goop comes off as easy as 100% Silicone ?

I'll let you know over the next few weeks, as I'll be (trying) to remove my transducer!!

West Marine or any "Ships Store" should have it.

I talked to Reps from both Wilderness Systems and Ocean Kayak and they both recommended Lexel.

One guy I know tested Lexel versus GOOP and he said that the GOOP had more bubbles in it, which doesn't seem conducive to good transducer readings, but others have used GOOP without any problems at all so I am not saying that GOOP will not work.

I have also used 3m 4200 in the past. It worked well and is still attached.

I think you may be right about the holding power of lexel vs goop. Then it would also hold true that lexel is probably much more difficult to remove than goop.

If your using Goop or Silicone you MUST give it 3-5 days to set before using.

If you want it permanent and flexible use Lexel. If you want to easily remove it later use silicone. If you want something in between go with goop.
