I was scanning through Ebay and came across an Ambush kayak with built in trolling motor mount.

Has anybody any experience with this kayak. I also found a site that has specifications. Its very heavy but looks to hold alot and has tons of room plus a trolling motor mount. Any comments??

Thanks,
Kurt

It weighs like a 100 lbs if I remember. Forget it buy a boat if you want a boat and buy a kayak if you what a kayak. This is like a mutt....a little bit of both. I was looking at this first before KFS was on the Web but talking to Jon had me look at kayaks. I think it has it's place but the weight is a hold back for me, lifting on to the truck and getting it to the water. This has a battery well and a way to attach a motor, a bit heavy to paddle as well if the battery goes dead and you're out on the water. Just my $.02.

Sit back and enjoy the ride!

I have one. It's paddles like a Civil War ironclad and it's sturdy as hell. I tried to mount a small gas engine on it but failed. I'm sure if you had a Riptide Minn Kota, it would accommodate it nicely as it has a mount and battery well built into the hull as you can see. It is spec'd to hold 800 lbs- I believe it.

I went to a Cobra FnD but keep it because my kids use it a lot. They can't tip it if they tried in backbay waters. I built a cart out of PVC and hand truck and I can get it around nicely.

If you get one, I'd go for the Hully rollers/saddles on your roof rack- it's a little unwieldly.

I have one also. I've mounted a electric trolling motor on it with all the great information and people on this site. Paddling the boat is manageable though you will need 260 cm paddles to cleanly avoid the sides. I got one used cause I could not pass up the deal. That said, its a bear of a boat to move around. I've set up a rolling cart to move it around. I've set up sliders out of pvc pipes to pull it up to the racks on my truck. The upside, I can take the wife and kid with no problem and even have a picnic on the boat. I got the motor so we can take the little one along and keep a hand on him the whole time. Based on my needs right now, I like the boat. There's probably another boat in the future.

Unless you're a weight lifter to carry the boat and need all the space, there's other boats out there for fishing.

I tried one before I bought my Drifter. Besides being heavy if you don't have a narrow butt, it has a small seat. If I remember right it's only 16"s wide.
