All this talk comparing EK's has us playing with some new stuff,
Tests for tomorrow are a couple of 24 volt kits and a couple of big motor kits. We are interested in run times from the 24 volt systems and the speed of bigger motors. If we can pick up a few miles per hour over what we presently have, I'd be very pleased.
I still think that weight won't be a problem with 2 U-1 32 ahr batteries weighing 24 lbs each, the larger motors are the same weight.
The first kayak to be used will be a Wilderness Commander 120 with a 80 lb thrust motor with 24volts with an electronic throttle control.
Then a Malibu X-Factor with BIG batteries and Big motor, hows 100 lb thrust with 2 125ahr batteries sound, mileage is what were looking for here, having a good blue water kayak with the ability to motor over 20 miles is what we're looking for.
We'll let you know tomorrow what happed.

Hehehe I'm currently working on Dual Motors on a Hobie Pa!! Not Practical but it will be slick! Hoping to see decent speed out of it. Not sure if i'm gonna do dual 40's or 55's. Will have full tilt, turn, etc capabilities and i'm gonna try to make them counter rotating.

The motor is no problem , the prop is going to stop you!!
The Commander 120 results full speed run with 32Ahr batteries . slight chop
driven until speed dropped to 3mph.
Total run time at full throttle 1.13:00
Total Distance 4.98 miles
Total miles at 1 hour 4.44 miles
Top speed 6.1mph
I was disappointed in the top speed, but I think I have a weak battery, and may not of been topped off

I wonder how many miles you would get if you used the 125AHr batteries. It would be interesting to find out.
how mutch weight you had wit these..steve.? a 80 poundtrust and 2 batteries like that.
you got my e mails.and pms.?

Doing the math, 19.5 miles with a 125Ahr battery.
the motor is 16lb and the batteries are 24lb each so 48lb and 16lb equals 64lbs total, not bad.
I have a Torqeedo motor to compare systems, that's going to be fun.
This months Kayak Angler is a Motor issue, pretty cool.
yep 64 pound for all this is not bad at all.
wen you compare an heavy yaker and slim one you can have way more deference then that anyway in the yak...hahahha
thanks for the update

We are now working with Torqeedo, as soon as we got the first motor I wanted to adapt it to my mounts for various reasons. The unit I had was a 402 ultralite, the top speed is fun, But, it's too fast for most kayaks, the speed sucked the back of the kayak down filling the tankwell with water at full speed on the Stealth 12 we used for testing. We adapted the mounting system of the Ultralite, first removing the "erector set" gimble mount. We used only the motor, shaft, and 1/2 of the universial and the steering triangle. The Torqeedo will now drop into a Bassyaks system using the existing cables. We are going to have extension cables so the battery can be mounted inside the hull, having the battery outside the hull is a problem with the Ultralite system.
This weekend I'm going to run the motor on a Malibu Kayaks Serria 10 which is a rocketship with the Minn-Kota so it's going to be a wild ride with the Brushless motor.
on that pict
man that thing look very nice.
light and small....love it.
