Wow! Must have been a heck of a fight, especially from an 18 foot boat. Very cool. Hope all that good meat doesn't have to go bad for it the igfa process to work through. Got hungry just look'n at it! :darkbeer:

Most of the fish were released, but the giant tuna and marlin were kept and will be sent to the taxidermist
Ummm isnt 700+ pounds of tuna meat worth like half a million bucks?

Back in the 80's, we landed a 604 giant in the fall season. We radio'd the local commercial fish market and a couple of japanese gentleman met us at the dock, took a sample of the meat and paid us $3600 for the fish. We took the cash. It wasn't properly iced or stored during the return trip to the dock. We would have been paid $12,000 if we had iced the fish and stored it cold. We were very happy with the $$, it paid for the fuel/food and left money in our pockets.
Looking back, I think we got screwed, but at the time, 3 days on the water, a big fish experience, tired, salty and $3600 in our pocket...seemed a good deal at the time.

Yeah, Rob, those were the days. My dad, brother and I used to go out to the canyon on an overnight, fill the boat to the gills with 50-100 lb tuna bled and packed immediately in to ice. The japanese truck would be waiting at the dock to inspect and hand over very large checks on the spot. It was crazy. Happy to see the stricter regs in place now though.
