Yes it goes on the rod butt. I believe it's about 2" deep.

Take a 3" PVC End piece (Concave shaped) and cut two slits (1" long x 1/8" wide) to allow a belt to slide through it, and get some 1" nylon strap and some buckles. Then you could slide it to where you need it, and place the rod end in the cup. Also, the tennis ball idea wouldn't hurt...the two could be used together.
Flyrods often have a fighting butt section, which is nothing more than a bulbous cork that stick on the butt of the flyrod. You place this againts your stomach while fighting a big fish. BTW: I do not feel sorry for you in the least... Most of use NEVER get a chance to catch anything big enough to require such a system... YotF

I took a 3' diameter PVC end cap, and sprayed it black.
I mounted a 1/4 inch bolt through it so the bolt was within 1/4" of the end cap. The rod butt groves fit just right over the bolt. Next I mounted the whole shibang on top of my Adventure middle hatch as far forward as I could. Sorry no pics at this time. |
