Default Batteries

So I bought a used Wilderness Kayak last winter with the plan to put a trolling motor on it. I am real close as I am only missing the motor mount (father is working on it in SD). My intitial plan was to put the battery in 'front storage' hatch on the Wilderness, but the battery was too big. So I felt my only choice was to put the big 12 volt battery behind the cockpit.

However, I have since learned that not all 12 volt batteries are the same size (shopping for a temperary battery for my depth finder). Apparently they make\sell a variety of sizes for 12 volt batteries for motorcycles and small tractors. I am not wondering if I can string 2 or 3 of these smaller batteries in parallel and stuff the smaller batteries into the the 'front storage' hatch?

If you put a big battery in the rear tank well your ass is gonna really drag. They also come I two basic favors, starting and deep cycle. Motorcycle and car batteries are starting batteries and not what you want. What you really want is a deep cycle sealed lead acid battery otherwise known as an AGM. Unless you're going over the horizon you should start with something between 35 AH and 55 AH.
You should be able to either in the front hatch although a 55 might make the yak plow a bit.
