The best anglers I know fish from all kinds of kayaks. There are lots of Revos, and Outbacks, but also Prowlers, Kaskazis, Hurricanes and god knows what else. I have come to the conclusion that catching fish has nothing to do with the boat and everything to do with who is in it.

Although I love to discuss and debate kayak design, I have said this a zillion times: Every kayak has good points and bad. There is no perfect boat.

Of course, Hobies still suck.

Default new kayak

So a kayak with a motor is no longer a kayak but a boat. The arrogance is stunning.
I don't doubt that your Ferrari can run circles around my family car but how is it at hauling kids and groceries?
SteveK posts about a new kayak without realizing the Paddling Police are on the prowl and Bam, there's blood in the water.
There is no doubt that there are situations where long paddles out to sea are necessary to reach a target species but that hardly fits what most of us are up against.
There is a reason gentlemen, why short relatively wide kayaks are popular. It's because the vast majority want to fish first and paddling is a means to an end.
If you like to paddle good for you. If you're good at it even better. Realize though that in the eyes of most that doesn't exalt you into a superior position.

Sticky this thread??? Yeah, but only if we make a new forum called "Time Wasters".

Sleek, barge, pedal, paddle or motor... I've yet to meet a kayak fisherman or woman I didn't like. We all love to be on the water catch'n fish. If newcomers need to move through a few different types of yaks as they learn what's best for them personally then it's just the way it is. We all had to learn some costly lessons in the beginning.

just for the record, I was the original owner of abraves4410's disco. I opted for pedals and went for the hobie adventure. It was a nice yak but I prefer pedals when fishing. I also cover more ground then I normally would with less effort, but I was a rower in college and not a paddler so I prefer to use my legs vs my saggy midsection. haha.

however, i too long for a lighter skinnier kayak, with or without pedals. I'd prefer hobie to make a fiberglass/kevlar/CF yak similar to the adventure. The weight this 16ft beast can be daunting at the end of the day....although not really an issue now after getting a cart and trailer. haha.

I will be playing out in the surf while on vacation with the hobie come the end of august. Well, not in the surf but out and back. Haven't had this boat out front yet and am getting an itch to try for a near shore wreck.

And all the hours spent watching fishing shows have finally paid off! A similar setup might work for a rigged bunker. Maybe next year.
