Seems there are as many ways to tie a kayak down as there are models of kayaks! It seems you really can't do it wrong as long as you don't tighten it down too much... and pool noodles help.
Thanks again. I'll worry less about how I have it tied down now.

Whatever works for you so long as it doesn't slip out. I cary the Revo in the truck bed and use bungees to keep it from sliding out backwards. My tailgate is either down or off! I put the Adventure on the roof rack hull up because I don't want to risk some yoyo driving into it.

I have a Chevy Silverado long bed with a tool box. I glued foam cushioning on the back of the tool box to protect the bow tip and, using a Harbor Freight truck bed extender with a cushion on the cross bar, I shove the yak into my truck, pull a single stout bungee cord over the yak across the ties on the truck bed extender, and off I go. And yes, you do need to have a red flag or you'll get ticketed.

I have a long Ocean Malibu XL and tie it down hull up, tail gate closed and straps through the scuppers. So far about 800 miles and no problems. I do tie an orange flag to it. I pplan to build a rack in the bed that will allow over the cab of Ford xl 150.
