The idea certainly has merit...if the recessed area was built into the hull at the manufacturer. Otherwise, that's one big hole that would be cut into the bottom of the hull. Also, curious about steer the boat.

Frankly, I would not do anything to my kayaks that would screw up the resale value.
Having said that...interesting idea. I'm sure James Bond's kayak has that setup. |

Yeah, but let's say you could get a junker yak, such as the one SteveL insists on paddling, that's worth maybe $65 at most. Then it might be a fun experiment, 'cause you wouldn't feel so bad about sawing into the bottom.
That said: if anybody has a plastic junker yak they want to give me, or sell to me for $65 or less, I'd be happy to spring for the kit and give the darn thing a shot. Any sellers? SteveL? Jon, you must have some piece o' crap kayak just taking up space, that you want to get rid of ... |

Geeman Me to I aint gonea do nuten to ma yak to mess it up just think at one time it was a soda botil or a soap botil maybe even a milke botil ,I think they made them out of scrap so we can do the same Theres nothing like puttin holes in my yak to make it better not lighter so saw away this fall there will be a lot of them on the market just like last year people move out and people moving up. its all Fun in joy your self ,
