I never hear any happy stories about kite boarders. And you seem to always be in the thick of rescues yourself lconn. You just need someone to follow you around and film you and then you can have your own weekly series.

LConn--perhaps this is the story my wife heard about--she thought it had been a kayaker and was concerned that it may have been you.

Doc Luna still has time to get on the show if he has any pull.

Honorary Degree

An honorary degree[1] or a degree honoris causa (Latin: 'for the sake of the honour') is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived the usual requirements (such as matriculation, residence, study and the passing of examinations). The degree itself is typically a doctorate or, less commonly, a master's degree, and may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution.

Usually the degree is conferred as a way of honoring a distinguished visitor's contributions to a specific field, or to society in general. The university often derives benefits by association with the person in question.
--------------------------------------------------------

Things I find amusing about the definition....(Latin: 'for the sake of the honor) Luna could sure use some of that.

waiving the usual requirements (such as the passing of examinations)...not qualified otherwise.

may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution. Smart move by institution to insure never ending supply of "qualified" recipients.

The university often derives benefits... well Duh? Why else would you "give" these things out?

Sounds like a win win situation for both parties involved in this time honored tradition.

Luna is definitely qualified and I'll be the first to call him a HO if and when that day comes. Same goes for FIU/FAU, or whoever it is that's slinging these things.

LConn--pretty funny, as usual!

Krash--sorry to hear about your son's misfortune! It looks like the Department of Defense (DoD) will be cutting a lot of civilian jobs in the future (around 111,000)--many of those are contractors.

Lucky for me, I can retire from my current job at any time. I think Ill wait until some institution of higher learning decides to present me with an "Honorary Ph.D. "a la Luna." Maybe I'll submit my fishing resume and when they see my skunk consistency, they'll award it to me (my contribution is the preservation of the fish population for others to enjoy catching). But don't worry! I'll never let a title get to my head. The only person that would have to call me "Dr. El Skunko" would be Luna.

How to lift a heavier (manly) yak. Weigh yourself, weigh your yak. Decided how much weight your yak needs to lose, loose it yourself. Repeat steps. If this doesn't work, get a canoe.
