This lake is a hidden gem in Blairstown, NJ. Starting off as Wildcat lake it was home to Camp Mohican a boy scout camp from 1926 to 1976. The lake was later renamed Catfish pond when the camp closed down and relocated. For a small lake it has a lot to offer, great fishing, great scenery, and alsolute serenity. The buildings from the old camp are intact and remain to this day. A company recently came in a fixed up the cabins and the boat house. The company is called AMC Mohican Outdoor Center, they did a pretty good job with the buildings and set up some lodging and rental services. Here is their website The water is beyond clear, on a sunny day on can see straight to the bottom. The Appalachian Trail also runs through the area and many people stop here for the night or for just a few hours rest. While out on the Hobie i12 Inflatable, my friend and I traveled over to the abandoned classroom that is still standing with posters on the walls and nature facts and diagrams everywhere. Aside from the classroom there is the old boathouse that is almost 100% visible from any spot on the lake. The best launch location is a small grassy area on the left as soon as you enter the park. There is a sign saying no motor vehicles past this point, but I usually drive past drop off the yaks and then go park in the lot. Aside from kayaking, there is a nice little rocky beach on the one side of the lake and it makes for some great swimming. All in all its a awesome location and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some piece and quiet.
