California
- Jim Sammons
of La Jolla Kayak Fishing has spent most of his life
on or near the water. Whether, during his youth, paddling his
inflatable raft on San Diego bay, pin heading for free trips on
the local sport boats or paddling his long board out to the kelp
beds of La Jolla. Jim always found a way to get on the water in
a manner that would not break his very small bank account. Receiving
his first kayak as a gift, he has never looked back; starting
La Jolla Kayak Fishing guide service in 1996, he has been on the
leading edge of this fast growing sport.
- Central
Coast Kayak Fishing Adventures is run by Brendan Crahan,
of Central Coast Kayakfishing, he has spent much of his life around
the ocean. During his youth he would work on the party boats out
of the many landings in Southern California, and later went on
to teach the fishing merit badge on Catalina Island. In 1998 he
moved up to Santa Cruz. Living just a few blocks from the beach
provided a wealth of fishing opportunities, from rockfish and
lingcod to halibut and salmon. Over the past seven years he has
thoroughly explored the waters off Californias Central Coast.
In 2002 he started Central Coast Kayakfishing Adventures, so that
he could share his love of the ocean and the growing sport of
kayakfishing. Since then he has guided many succesful trips on
his favorite waters for salmon, halibut, rockfish, lingcod and
white seabass. His favorite local fisheries are found around Santa
Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, and Big Sur, where the scenery
is as good as the fishing.
